The Trenchcoat Gang
For 15 years Ray Bowman and Billy Kirkpatrick were the most successful bank robbers in US history. In 1997, they walked out of Seafirst Bank with their largest take ever -- over $4 million. The FBI dubbed the case "trenchrob" because of the trenchcoats worn by the thieves.
After 27 heists totaling over $8 million, it looked as though they would never be caught. But once Bowman settled down to a middle-class life in Kansas City, things began to unravel. A series of small mishaps and coincidences soon got the attention of the ATF, the IRS, and the local Kansas City Police Department.
